The Lake Calumet Feasibility Study proposes to locate Chicago's third airport in the area bounded by 95th Street on the north, the Calumet Expressway on the west, Interstate-80 on the south, and Indiana Harbor on the east.
The Feasibility Study presents six conclusions in its description of -- and justification for -- a Lake Calumet Airport location, including:
(1) A major air carrier facility is feasible within the ground and airspace of the Lake Calumet site;

Alternative Employment Impacts of the Proposed McCormick Place Expansion
The Ad-Hoc McDome Coalition asked the University of Illinois at Chicago Center for Urban Economic Development (CUED) to do an assessment of the proposed Metropolitan Pier and Expansion Authority's (MPEA) employment estimates for the proposed McCormick Place Expansion project. A study (entitled the Long Range Marketing Study) conducted for the MPEA by KPMG Peat Marwick estimated that without the expansion, 2,000 Cook County jobs could be expected to be lost from a slowdown in activity at McCormick Place.
Preliminary Market Analysis of the Commercial Development Potential in the Monterey Vincennes Area
The area known as Monterey-Vincennes is located in Morgan Park, just south of Beverly Hills on the far southwest side of Chicago. In conjunction with urban renewal plans, several blocks along both Monterey and Vincennes Avenues have been cleared for redevelopment. The University of Illinois Center for Urban Economic Development was retained by several neighborhood groups to prepare redevelopment plans that were economically viable, improved the appearance of the area, and were in concert with local objectives.
A Study of the Feasibility of Forming a Construction Company for the 18th Street Development Corporation
In January 1980, the Eighteenth Street Development Corporation (ESDC) asked the Center for Urban Economic Development of the University of Illinois at Chicago Circle (CUED) to do a feasibility study of the ESDC proposal to form a small, for-profit construction company. The proposed company would serve as an important component of the ESDC's self-help economic revitalization strategy in the Pilsen community.
Greater Grand Boulevard Economic Development Study
This report presents the results of research on opportunities for economic growth in the Greater Grand Boulevard Community. Socioeconomic data were collected and analyzed, and fifty-five block club leaders, business people, church leaders, social workers, elected officials and other activists were interviewed. The University of Illinois at Chicago's Center for Urban Economic Development (CUED) carried out the research and wrote this report for Grand Boulevard Residents Encouraging Action Together (GREAT) and Centers for New Horizons.

The Displacement of Storefront Businesses in Downtown Chicago 1976 - 1981
Over the past five years, the construction of numerous high-rise office buildings has transformed the character of Chicago's Loop by significantly diminishing street-level retail activity. More than half (52 percent) of the retail stores in buildings torn down to make way for the current building boom have not relocated and have gone out of business. In addition, those that have relocated were pushed from the prime retail area to more peripheral locations. The proportion of businesses located in non-prime areas has risen from 20 to 45 percent of the total.
Market Analysis for a Community Energy Retrofit Business with Organization of the Northeast
This study analyzes the feasibility of developing a community energy retrofit business for the Uptown and Edgewater communities of Chicago. It also explores alternative actions for addressing energy problems in this area.
The study was developed by the Center for Urban Economic Development (CUED) of the University of Illinois at Chicago for the Organization of the Northeast (O.N.E.) and its subsidiary, Community Ventures, Inc. (CVI). It is part of the on-going effort by the latter to face problems created by rising utility costs in these communities.
Harvey Theater Building Rehab Study
The University of Illinois Center for Urban Economic Development (CUED) has analyzed the feasibility of rehabilitating and operating the Harvey Theater building located in the City of Harvey, Illinois. The multi-purpose facility would include an auditorium, a kitchen, and offices or classrooms, in addition to the movie theater. The proposed multi-purpose facility would be rented to individuals and organizations to hold such activities as meetings, dances, and banquets.
An Analysis of the A.E. Staley/ Tate & Lyle Lockout in Decatur, Illinois
There is, in our view, a pressing necessity for A.E. Staley workers and supporters as well as the citizens of Decatur, Illinois to defend their internationally recognized right to organize and bargain collectively; to work and live in a safe environment; to earn a reasonable wage; to achieve reasonable employment security. These rights have been placed in jeopardy by the actions of Tate & Lyle Ltd. following the hostile takeover of the A.E. Staley corporation including a lock out of its workforce.
